Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, released 80 vehicles for free transportation of farmers from their communities to farmlands to reduce the high cost of living and farm produce caused by fuel subsidy removal.

The hike in price of tomatoes and pepper due to the sudden fuel subsidy removal promoted the governor to make provisions for the farmers as farming is the major means of occupation.

The 80 vehicles comprise 50 luxury buses to be allocated from the fleet of the Borno Express Corporation, the state-owned transport company, while the 30 pick-up vans will be hired by the state government.

Speaking further, he expressed his support always for the farmers. He specified meeting thousands of farmers gathered and their numbers reaching up to 100,000 due to the removal of fuel subsidy which although has a long-term benefit has made the cost of transportation to farm produce.

Reacting, to the effect of fuel subsidy on the farmers Borno State Government has decided to provide 50 busses and 30 pick-up vans to convey farmers to their farmlands this rainy season.

While addressing the farmers, he urged them to cooperate with soldiers, police, and other security agencies deployed to roads to protect citizens including farmers who go to the outskirts to access their farmlands.

The governor also expressed gratitude to the military for their sacrifices in protecting Borno’s people and as such enable farming activities across the state.
