Students Injured As Cult Clash Erupts in Iree Poly Campus

Two students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and one suspected cult member have been injured after a cult clash erupted on the institution’s campus.

According to reports, the clash occurred on Tuesday between two rival cult groups, Eiye and Alora.

Reacting to the incident, the Ospoly Director of Media, Publicity, and Public Relations, Mr. Bayo Fadeji, affirmed that one victim was severely injured, but no fatalities were reported.

He said, “I have learnt a lot of things, some people said three people were killed, four people were killed, but as far as I am concerned, nobody died there”

Fadeji added that “The issue is just an issue between two rival cult groups (Ẹiyẹ and Alora) and then, we quickly rose to the occasion. We invited the anti-cultism, they have been on ground to quell any form of retaliation.

“But there is one guy who was seriously injured, we’ve not been able to confirm the studentship of the guy and if we are able to, we’ll surely take a step through the student disciplinary committee of the school and sanction such a student according to the student guardian.”

It will be recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, a violent clash broke out between the suspected cult groups, during which gunshots were reportedly fired, resulting in pandemonium on the campus.

According to eyewitness report, a student of the institution collapsed due to the gunshots and was rushed to the school’s Medical Centre for treatment.

Similarly, a female graduate of the institution who came for clearance sustained a severe injury while running for safety. She was rushed to the Medical Centre for treatment and, a few minutes later, was transferred to the Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

It was gathered that the security operatives have been deployed to the institution to ensure proper investigation and the safety of the students.

All efforts to get a reaction from the police proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
