Tinubu in closed-door meeting with organised Labour
His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the leaders of the organised Labour at the State House, Abuja.
The organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), arrived at the State House at about 2 pm in a white Hiace bus for the meeting expected to be about choosing a new national minimum wage.
According to reports gathered, the NLC president, Joe Ajaero, and the TUC President, Festus Osifo, led other members of the two Labour bodies.
Recall, that the Tripartite Committee on the new national minimum wage had recently submitted two figures to the President. While the organised private sector and the government team had offered to pay N62,000, while the organised labour demanded N250,000.
Following the disagreement over the figure, the President has delayed sending any figure to the National Assembly through the Executive Bill to consult with all the relevant stakeholders to resolve all the contentious issues.
Presently at the closed-door meeting are representatives of organized Labour, the government’s side are the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Ministers of Health, and coordinating Minister of Social Welfare, Prof Ali Pate; Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha; Information and and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Education, Prof Mamman Tahir.
