Olufon stool: ‘Stop proposed imposition of new Olufon’, says The Royal Family

The entire Olufon royal families in Ifon-Orolu Kingdom on Monday staged a protest to signify their rejection of the plan by the state government to impose a new monarch upon the people of the town.

The protest which was held infront of the Olufon’s palace comprises of the five ruling houses in the town. The ruling houses according to 1979 declaration includes; Moronfolu ruling house, Olumoyero ruling house, Odunolu ruling house, Orisatoyinbo ruling house and Oluyeyin ruling house.

At the gate of the palace is a banner with the inscription; “Oyetola should avoid crises in Orolu”, “Olufon Royal Family rejects planned imposition of new Olufon”.

While addressing journalists, the General Secretary to the Olufon Royal Families, Prince Oladepo Oyelade, urged the state government to desist from its attempt to politicize the royal stool as this act may cause chaos, confusion, internal fighting and bloodshed.

He said the matter relating to the selection and installation of a new monarch for the town is currently before the Osun State High Court for determination of extant Olufon Cheiftancy declaration and associated issues.

“The entire Olufon royal family condemns in its entirety any attempt to politicize our esteemed royal stool which may cause mayhem in our community. It is not a political stool and we hereby reject any attempt to make it sound like a political donation to anyone.

“Matters relating to selection of the new Olufon of Ifon-Orolu kingdom is still before the Osun State High Court for determination of extant Olufon Cheiftancy declaration and associated issues, and there is substituting injunction on the matter. The matter is therefore sub-justice and no one in the executive arm of the government has the right to do anything about it until the court disposes the matter.

“We see the attempt by the outgoing Oyetola’s government as a way to leave Ifon-Orolu people with chaos, confusion, internal fighting and potential bloodshed.

“We are not unaware of the ongoing distress and social disaffection currently going on in Awo(Egbedore local government) and Ikirun (Ifelodun local government) as a result of a similar imposition of their monarchs by the state government.”

Meanwhile, Prince Oyelade has called on the state government to make a public statement on this allegation so as to dispel the rumor.

He said it is only through the statement that the community will remain at peace with one another and the state government will not also be seen as flagrantly violating the law of the land.
